Yes, I am talking about the portion of Chakrata Road from Clock Tower to Prabhat Cinema. Undoubtedly the most crowded spot in the city of Dehradun.
For years, there was talk of demolishing the shops and widening this bottleneck but somehow things continued just as they were. But now, finally, action was taken and within a few weeks, Dehra Dun’s ‘suicide alley’ was no more.
Indeed, this was the name which the old Doon’ites had given to this part of Chakrata Road! “So you are late?” one would ask the other. “Yes, as you know, I had to come through Suicide Alley,” the other would reply with a smile. No more questions were asked.
